Oils always were a medium I stayed well away from as they were the scary fellas. But in recent times my curiosity has been pushing me and this week I dived right in. What better way! Now, remember, this is my first time using oils and images are not as vibrant as the real artwork.

I am using small 10 x 10 cm canvas and wood supports at the moment as I feel my way. I am using liquitex modeling paste on some as a textured background as well as gilding papers for an added depth.

I know very little about oils so each one is an experiment in texture, technique, mixing of colours with just a basic set and having some fun. Most are just from my own internal images, one was a copy of a photo…which is actually my least liked one. The more texture the better! I really love the way the grain of the wood adds to the overall image and creates wonderful landscapes.

I adore the feel and consistency of the oil paint and how easy it is to mix colour. This could become a love affair as it is somewhat addictive. Getting used to the messiness and having to not use water for cleaning up are small challenges I willingly accept.

I would appreciate some feedback… comment as always…below. Thanks.
